Chile beats Argentina 1-0 in World Cup qualifier
SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - Fabian Orellana scored on debut for Chile to top Argentina 1-0 for the first time in official competition in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday.
Chile had previously beaten Argentina only in friendlies, and the last was in 1973.
Orellana, a striker with the local Audax Italiano side, scored in the 35th minute with a 12-meter (yard) shot from a right cross by defender Gary Medel.
Chile, which had lost 2-0 in Buenos Aires in the opening round of South American qualifying a year ago, joined Argentina on 16 points, seven behind leader Paraguay through 10 matches.
